Fly With Stimm

Flying home from Mexico to London yesterday, it struck me just how many people must feel some level of anxiety when the doors of a plane close. The roar of those Rolls Royce engines as you're thrust back in your seat during take-off signals the start of a new adventure for many and the excitement that goes with it. For others, however, it's the beginning of a journey they can't wait to end. For the first time, I recognized that there is a real place in today's world of travel for stimming jewelry. A calming necklace - or any form of calming jewelry - is a useful tool in focusing the senses and pushing away any anxiety associated with long journeys or a bumpy flight.

In the very early days, when we began designing Stimm, we explored the idea that a textured object could produce a sense of calmness, when gently stroked - quite simply, that the focusing of touch could help dispel anxiety. It was a simple idea and from it our Stimm and Stimm Rubber Necklaces were born.

I'm uneasy during take-offs and (hard) landings. My wife and little boy clasp their armrests when turbulence hits. Perhaps, somewhere inside all of us, there remains a primeval sense that we are creatures of the earth, not the air. On Thursday, I'm flying to Havana and will wear my Stimm Necklace. And when I disembark, across the ocean, you'll hear me say: 'Turbulence? What turbulence?'
